Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnamese: Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh) is located in southeastern Vietnam, commonly known by its previous name, Saigon, (Vietnamese: Sài Gòn) is the most populous city in Vietnam with a population of 9 million (13 million in the metropolitan area) as of 2019 and is the financial centre of Vietnam.

From 1955-1975, Saigon was briefly the capital of South Vietnam (Republic of Vietnam). Nowadays, Saigon is commonly used to refer to the city's central business districts, whereas Ho Chi Minh City is used to refer to the whole city.
