The Mirror of Chicago (Cloud Gate - The Bean) - CHICAGO, USA
At first glance, it looks like something from the future. But since its unveiling in 2006, Cloud Gate —better known as “The Bean”—has become one of Chicago’s most recognizable landmarks.
Created by British-Indian artist Anish Kapoor, the sculpture is made from 168 stainless-steel plates seamlessly welded together to create a perfectly reflective surface. Its polished exterior transforms the surrounding skyline into a constantly changing work of art, bending skyscrapers, clouds, and visitors into surreal reflections.
What many people don't realize is that the sculpture weighs nearly 100 tons. Despite its massive size, its smooth, liquid-like appearance gives the impression of a giant drop of mercury resting in the heart of the city.
Standing beneath the arch and watching Chicago curve and ripple across the mirror-like surface is one of the city's most memorable experiences—a place where architecture, public art, and everyday life blend into a single reflection.
