City views - KAOHSIUNG, TAIWAN

Kaohsiung city is the second largest city of Taiwan, having a population of approximately 2.77 million people and is Taiwan's third most populous city. Since founding in the 17th century, being among the island's oldest cities, Kaohsiung has grown from a small trading village into a large, modern metropolis and the political and economic centre of southern Taiwan, with key industries such as manufacturing, steel-making, oil refining, freight transport and shipbuilding

The city is largely built around its historical harbour. It was an important facility for the dutch in the 17th century and continues to be a major international trading port. Waterways reach out into the city, especially the Love River, which is a top attraction in its own right. The newly developed city is also known for having a large number of shopping streets, organized night markets and newly developed leisure parks.
