The Dharma Wheel Beneath the Trees - DANANG, VIETNAM

Shakyamuni Buddha statue with Dharma Wheel and deer sculptures at the Marble Mountains in Da Nang, Vietnam

Hidden among the lush paths of the Marble Mountains in Da Nang, this peaceful Buddhist scene feels separated from the noise of the modern world.

At the center sits Shakyamuni Buddha, the historical Buddha, surrounded by deer and quiet figures in prayer. In front of the statue appears the Dharma Wheel, one of Buddhism’s oldest symbols, representing the teachings of the Buddha and the path toward spiritual awakening. The deer beside the wheel refer to the Deer Park at Sarnath in India, where Buddha delivered his first sermon after enlightenment.

What makes this place memorable is not monumental scale, but atmosphere. Sunlight filters through tangled roots and tropical foliage, while white marble statues emerge almost silently from the greenery. The entire setting feels contemplative — somewhere between sculpture garden, temple, and forest sanctuary.

In Vietnam, spirituality often blends naturally with landscape, and places like the Marble Mountains reveal that harmony beautifully.
