Prayag Ghat - VARANASI, INDIA

Ghats in Varanasi, India, are riverfront steps leading to the banks of the River Ganges. The city has 88 ghats. Most of the ghats are bathing and puja ceremony ghats, while two ghats are used exclusively as cremation sites.

Overflowing with devotees that come to offer their prayers day and night, the Prayag Ghat is another significant ghat in Varanasi. Located on the immediate left of the Dashashwamedh Ghat, it was built by Balaji Bajirao in 1778 and is a replica of the Prayag holy city in Allahabad. Fortune tellers, seated under rattan umbrellas, read fortunes for the visiting pilgrims.
