Angkor Wat - SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA

Stone causeway leading to Angkor Wat temple complex in Siem Reap, Cambodia

This photograph captures the iconic western causeway leading to Angkor Wat, the most celebrated monument of Siem Reap, in Cambodia, Southeast Asia.

Built in the early 12th century during the reign of King Suryavarman II, Angkor Wat was originally dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu before gradually transforming into a Buddhist temple. The perfectly aligned stone causeway, symmetrical galleries, and towering lotus-shaped towers reflect the advanced engineering and cosmological symbolism of the Khmer Empire.

Seen from this frontal perspective, the temple’s monumental scale and balanced geometry emphasize its role not only as a religious sanctuary but also as a powerful political and cultural statement. Today, Angkor Wat stands as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Asia’s most significant archaeological landmarks.
